Join Us For Our Annual
Model Train Display

December 11th, 10AM to 3PM

The second Saturday in December, we host a model train display for the community.

"Trains Under the Christmas Tree" has been a special part of Christmas celebrations in many homes.  Kids of all ages love to watch model trains.  We are using this holiday custom to remind families of the real meaning of Christmas.

"For behold I bring you good news of a great joy which shall be for all the people; for today in the city of David there has been born for you a Savior, who is Christ the Lord."  Luke 2:10-11

This event includes a wide variety of model train displays:

HO Scale:  Every year, the Piedmont HO Modular Club of Warrenton, VA. has been part of our event.  Their layout is about 20 ft x 30 ft of modules made by club members who love to run trains, and share their enthusiasm with visitors.

O Scale:  Last year the Lionel display was completely redone. The main level is a 32 ft x 10 ft modular hi-rail display.  Unlike most modular displays, the middle is completely filled in with additional train loops, winter scenery, and an upper level that is a beautiful ceramic winter village.  We invite anyone with O Scale trains that are in good running condition to join us during the event.  Advance notice is needed however, to coordinate the trains we run.

Lego Display:   One of our church members presents one of the largest Lego displays in the area, that includes an interactive hunt for specific items that the kids love to find.  Every child that finds all the items receives a small logo prize.   Also unique to this display, it is run by our Boys Brigade Ministry.

G Scale:  Most years on our stage area, we have a simple loop of these large trains, where the children are able to run the trains, with supervision.

Wooden Play Trains:  A big hit with the kids is a play area where the kids can build their own train empire and play with them.  Seats are provided for the parents to watch and enjoy.  It is not uncommon for some families to spend up to an hour playing and watching all the trains.

As mentioned above, the O Scale display is now a modular layout.  This give us the option to set up the display at other times throughout the year, or to take the display on the road.  If you have any ideas or interest in possible events where we might want to set up our display, please contact Ray Cardwell at the church office.

Kids love watching the trains!
